Schools feed drug habit?

Kids are abusing a new drug these days, and school officials are upset. According to the 1/28/96 News & Observer (Raleigh, NC), the drug comes in tablets which the kids crush and snort for a cheap high. Where do they get this drug? Why, from the school nurse's office. The drug is Ritalin. The youngsters who are supposed to be on drugs at school are instead "cheeking" their daily dose, then selling it to their buddies. The article notes, "It was almost inevitable that some kids would misuse the drug, doctors and educators say: There is simply so much Ritalin out there." When will the DEA crack down on that notorious state school cartel?
