Movie maker targets nation's 2.5 million homeschoolers

Company that created 'Chronicles' now wants input from 'savvy' market leaders

Excerpt: One can just about hear a collective "at last" from the parents of the estimated 2.5 million homeschool students in the United States.

Now, on the heels of its wildly successful "The Chronicles of Narnia, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," and just a few weeks after announcing an outreach in support of family-friendly films, Walden Media is confirming plans for a national education outreach initiative with the homeschool community.

"Walden develops films based on core values, classic literature, and compelling lives," said company co-founder Michael Flaherty. "Homeschool parents and students are natural partners in this mission because they demand family-friendly, educationally significant entertainment..."

Baptist 'exit strategy' means get kids out of public schools

Groundswell of support building in 16 million member group for homeschooling

Excerpt: If you like sexually transmitted diseases, shootings and high teen pregnancy rates, by all means, send your children to public schools. That's the word from a leader in the fast-growing movement within the 16 million-member Southern Baptist Convention for parents to pull their children from those schools in favor of homeschooling.

The program is called Exit Strategy and Pastor Wiley Drake, whose home state of California has done some things especially offensive to Christians this year, is a leading promoter.

In an interview with WND, he said that those problems and others are prevalent in public schools, and some Christian leaders even have said it could be considered child abuse just to register children in such a facility.

That's why resolutions encouraging members of the nation's largest Protestant church organization to exit public schools have been submitted in every SBC state and regional convention in the U.S., he said...

Call for Exit Strategy From Public Schools Gaining Momentum:
Resolution Submitted in Southern Baptist State Conventions Covering the Continental United States

Second Vice President of the SBC Executive Committee and other Leaders are Resolution Sponsors; Resolution Asks That Particular Attention be Given to Needs of Orphans, Single Parents, and the Disadvantaged

Excerpt: The call for an “exodus” from the public schools continues to build momentum within the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC).  Although elements of the SBC leadership prevented the messengers at this year’s SBC Annual Meeting from having the opportunity to vote on the Moran/Shortt “Exit Strategy” resolution, the same resolution has been submitted in every SBC state and regional convention in the continental United States.  This represents a significant increase over the number of states in which education resolutions were introduced in 2004 (conventions covering 15 states) and 2005 (conventions covering approximately 25 states)...

Parental rights: Are they in jeopardy?

by Michael Farris

ExcerptGermany banned homeschooling.... Declaring that "pluralism in education" is "essential for the preservation of the 'democratic society,'" the European high court declared that "in view of the power of the modern State, it is above all through State teaching that this aim must be realized"...

Comment
: This demonstrates why we must abandon state schooling altogether. We cannot arm the state to teach our children without the supposed servant (the state) wresting control from the supposed master (us). U.S. courts have already ruled against parental rights. The example of other countries doing the same will only embolden them. The only way to disarm the state is to deprive it of its ammunition (our children).  We're working on it!

Court upholds Nazi-era ban on homeschooling
Decision: State must avoid dissent, 'separate philosophical convictions'

ExcerptA new ruling from the European Human Rights Court has affirmed the German nation's Nazi-era ban on homeschooling, concluding that society has a significant interest in preventing the development of dissent through "separate philosophical convictions"...

The specific case addressed in the opinion involved Fritz and Marianna Konrad, who filed the complaint in 2003 and argued that Germany's compulsory school attendance endangered their children's religious upbringing and promotes teaching inconsistent with the family's Christian faith...

Parents Pull Kids Out of Public Schools

Excerpt:
Despite recent setbacks that had detractors toasting its demise, a grass-roots movements is growing that has the potential to impact American society in an enormously positive way.

The catalyst is a diverse group of organizations working to encourage people to pull their children out of a public school system they see as increasingly hostile to their faith and values, incapable of maintaining a disciplined learning environment, and (perhaps most blatantly) incapable of doing the very thing for which it exists: educating students...

Take Back the Schools? From whom?

by Tammy Drennan

"Don’t just hammer public schools. Go in there and take them back."  - Finn Laursen, Christian Educators Association International, quoted in an AP article in The Boston Herald, 9/2/06

Take them back from whom?  The government?  Other parents?  The taxpayers?  The teachers' unions?  The textbook publishers?  The special interests?  The school boards?  The religious community?

You see the problem. State schools, financed by the public at large, cannot be taken "back" by any one group...
