[Correction - Sent April 20, 2007] Dear Friends of the Welcome to the latest edition of Alliance e-Notes! Please be sure to read about our trip to Poland, then link to our special message to European families and their supporters. Marshall and I would love to take all of you with us so you could share in the excitement and energy of this international movement to restore families. We'll be thinking of you every time we share our message and literature with someone new to the idea that families and not government should shape their children's worldview and future. If Europe goes much of the world will go with it. - World Congress of Families In response to a militantly anti-family ethos prevalent in the 'post modern' West, the World Congress of Families fosters an international network of pro-family organizations, scholars, and leaders that seeks to restore the natural family as the fundamental social unit and the 'seed bed' of a sane societey. - World Congress of Families As anyone who follows court decisions or congressional debates knows, what happens around the world, and especially in Europe, can have a huge impact on our freedom in the United States. We need to keep informed about the freedom struggles of our brothers and sisters around the world and help where we can. The help we give will come back to benefit us many times over. That's why the Alliance is going to Poland. We'll be attending the World Congress of Families with such co-sponsoring organizations as Focus on the Family, the Heritage Foundation, Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute, Concerned Women for America, Christian Film & Television Commission, Media Research Center and dozens of others in support of strong, independent families, but our message will be unique. The one issue that many emerging democracies and struggling countries, as well as many pro-family organizations in America, have not yet addressed is government-controlled schooling. The practice has such a long history that most people don't recognize it as the source of many of society's ills, including the "militantly anti-family ethos prevalent in the 'post modern' West." We've developed literature especially for this trip. It incorporates the new way of approaching people that we've been working on over the past year - an invitational approach that says, "Please, let's talk. May I share my concerns and views?" The response thus far to this conversational and caring approach has been very positive, and we're looking forward to engaging our global fellow-citizens in this important dialog about who should shape the minds and emotions of children. We can hardly wait to return from our trip and report to you on what we know will be exciting happenings! In the meantime, please read our special message and think about who you might share it with when we get back to the US and tweak it to create a new brochure for domestic use. Please be thinking of us from May 11 to 13 as we mingle with and reach out to 3,500 individuals and representatives from forty major pro-family organizations gathered for the purpose of protecting and promoting the rights of families. Rome, Georgia, schools superintendent approves of German ban on homeschooling and feels the Is your baby playing with its toes yet? If not the government wants to know why. This is the sort of program that American child "advocates" drool over. Like to Blog? Senior Writer Tammy Drennan has started a great education blog - In which we discuss the meaning and means of education: Passionately, honestly and with civility. We highly recommend that you visit the blog. Thank you for your support. Sent April 20, 2007 Correction, Plus Good News! We would like to correct a mistake that two alert readers brought to our attention. In our April Alliance e-Notes, under "In the News," we reference an article from the Rome News-Tribune. Our lead to the article reads: "Rome, Georgia, schools superintendent aproves of German ban on homeschooling and feels the U.S. could follow suit." That lead was based on a quote at the end of the News-Tribune article. There was some confusion about who made the statement, and the News-Tribune has since removed the quote from the article. Since there was some question as to the author of the statement, we should have erred on the side of caution and not assumed it was the Rome, Georgia, schools superintendent. We're sorry if this situation has caused any confusion for readers of our e-Notes and will most certainly be more on our toes in the future. Good News! The response to the special message we fashioned for our trip to Poland has been very positive. We're excited about sharing it with our international friends and hope you've had a chance to read it.
