by Alan Schaeffer, President On my return from Poland, I scheduled a few days in Rome. Maybe it’s just an impression, but… I had the overwhelming sense throughout my travel that the church is the place of sanctuary and sanity and the anchor of western culture. In Poland people still appreciate this and evidence of the church is everywhere you look - certainly in many people and even on the roadside! Rome was different. The gap is widening between the church and the world. Rome's exterior is tired. Seemingly all at once, whole cultures all over Europe are actively forgetting their heritage. But it is still present in the sanctuary of the church which remains a door into another world. On the Road with Marshall!
