In January 2008, “The Bucket List” starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman was released. It’s about two terminally ill men who escape from a cancer ward and head off on a road trip with a wish list of to-dos (e.g. skydiving) before they kick the bucket. NB to non-Americans: “Kick the bucket” is an idiom for dying. While lots of fun, the movie is also semi-profound. Several folks getting chemo with me perked up when it was mentioned, saying things like, “The doctor’s ought to give a copy to every cancer patient.” So I am writing and implementing my Bucket List. And if you know me, you know I much admire and try to observe Proverbs 15:22: “A wealth of advisors will help you avoid rash mistakes like last time, Marshall.” And that is why you are invited to send me your opinions/feelings/suggestions/complaints. Plus, I need help to accomplish some items. Please think what you might do. Maybe donate some airline miles or a ticket? I want my bucket list to be hypo-grandiose. That is, almost-but-not-quite grandiose. And you’d be surprised what happens when a guy “plays the terminal cancer card.” You know, like the “Make a Wish Foundation.” Tech Support really starts hopping. Delta says, “We’re waiving the change fees.” See the fish hatchery item. One last thing. As I write this, it looks like my expiration date is 6-20 months off, although a miracle can change that to as many years. I can’t plan to do much the last three months. That will be family time and palliation of pain. Hence MY motto has become: If the Lord gives you enough lemons, you can make lemon pie, not just lemonade!!
