How Much Time?

Marshall Fritz passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2008, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. We are maintaining this site in his memory.

The doctors won't say much. It's been 5 months since my February diagnosis (about the same time as Patrick Swayze). Researching it myself, it looked like it looked like my expiration date was 6-20 months off. (No, I do not subtract a month from that as each month goes by. :-)

Of course, it is all guess-work. The tests are just not that precise.  Plus, they don't have a way of knowing if my pancreatic cancer is fast growing, average, or bit slow. Put it all together and you get a range.

I'm holding up well under chemotherapy. Now have had eight session; my CA19-9 is down from 5,500 to 1,100, so we're "Shrinkin' Tumor!" (Unfortunately, that isn't the same as eliminating tumor. :-)

The only number Dr. Marshall Flam, my oncologist, has mentioned is that he thinks I've got a 50:50 shot of lasting a year.

By the way, word on the street is that I can’t plan to do much during the last three months. That will be probably be home-hospice with my daughter Lucie and family. She home schools her four children; my wife works; and the children will be great at answering "Papa's little bell."  :-)
